FRSC Deploys 860 Personnel for Easter Special Patrol in Edo
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edo Command, has launched a special patrol operation for the Easter period, deploying 860 personnel and logistics to reduce road traffic crashes across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Benin by the Sector Public Education Officer, Patricia Onwochei.
Onwochei said the operation, which commenced on Wednesday, would run until April 8, in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal to ensure safer roads during the festive season and beyond.
She explained that the personnel deployed include 510 regular marshals and 350 special marshals.
The spokesperson added that operational equipment such as patrol vehicles, ambulances, heavy-duty trucks, and power bikes had been mobilised to ensure effective coverage across Edo.
According to her, the patrol would target major traffic offences, including excessive speeding, dangerous driving, use of mobile phones while driving, and overloading—violations known to significantly contribute to road crashes.
“The Easter special patrol is aimed at achieving a reduction in road traffic crashes during the celebration and beyond, through intensified enforcement and traffic control measures,” she said.
Onwochei noted that officers had been strategically positioned to monitor highways, manage traffic flow, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
She urged motorists to obey traffic rules and prioritise safety, stressing that strict enforcement would be maintained throughout the period to safeguard lives and property.
