Vigilante on the Run After Killing Girlfriend, Injuring Two Others in Abia
The Abia State Police Command has launched an extensive manhunt for a local vigilante member who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, while also stabbing her sister and shooting another man in a violent rampage.
The tragic incident occurred in the Umuanga Amakama community of Ubakala, located in the Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the command received a distress call regarding a fatal assault carried out by a suspect identified as Chinedu Anamelechi.
Anamelechi reportedly shot his girlfriend, identified as Ezinne Ariwodo, to death before turning his weapons on her sister and another young man from the area.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Command swiftly raced to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the deceased in a pool of blood with gunshot injuries,” Chinaka stated.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the two injured victims were quickly rescued by operatives and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment for stab and gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel confirmed Ezinne Ariwodo dead, and her body has been deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy. Police operatives have also recovered exhibits from the crime scene for forensic analysis.
While assuring the public that normalcy has been restored to the Umuanga Amakama community, ASP Chinaka urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as tensions ran high following the unprovoked attack.
“Investigation is ongoing as efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect,” she added, assuring that the fleeing vigilante would be brought to justice.
