The Rivers State Police Command has questioned and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division, along with the officer responsible for the Abuloma Police Outpost, due to claims that suspected cult members renovated the facility.

The command also initiated a complete investigation into the situation surrounding the renovation and a viral video showing alleged sponsors visiting the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the project’s completion.

This information was shared in a statement from ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju.

The command condemned any actions that could harm the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force. It warned against using police facilities to support or promote activities of suspected cult groups or other illegal organizations.

According to the statement, police facilities are public institutions created to protect citizens and enforce laws. They must not serve as platforms for criminal groups seeking public recognition or influence.

The command stated that this investigation will reveal who financed or assisted in the renovation, which officers approved the project, whether proper procedures were followed, and how involved police personnel were in this situation.

The statement mentioned that the investigation will find out if any officer broke professional rules or hurt the Force’s integrity.

However, the command recognized that it is acceptable for the community to support improvements in police facilities according to Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020. This section allows for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

They emphasized that such help must not weaken police independence, professional standards, or safety. They also noted that necessary approvals and background checks should be completed.

“No donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution,” the statement said.

The command reaffirmed its strict approach against crime, unprofessional behavior, and improper connections with criminals. They warned that anyone found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary actions and legal consequences based on the investigation’s findings and existing laws.

They encouraged residents to stay calm and continue providing reliable and timely information to aid security efforts throughout Rivers State.
