The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) recorded a total turnover of 3.249 billion shares valued at N237.986 billion in 287,919 transactions during the week. The figures represent a decline in volume compared with the 3.647 billion shares worth N130.151 billion traded in 244,777 transactions in the previous week.
Despite the lower volume, the value of transactions increased by 82.9 per cent during the week. The NGX All-Share Index also rose by 2.78 per cent, while market capitalisation appreciated by 2.90 per cent, resulting in a N4.57 trillion increase in market value.
The Financial Services Industry dominated trading activity, accounting for 2.581 billion shares valued at N97.212 billion in 138,900 transactions. The sector contributed 79.43 per cent and 40.85 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Services Industry followed with 131.102 million shares worth N2.731 billion traded in 15,084 transactions. The ICT Industry ranked third, recording a turnover of 114.622 million shares valued at N21.541 billion in 29,152 transactions.
Trading in the shares of Fidelity Bank Plc, Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc and Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc accounted for 1.229 billion shares worth N15.942 billion in 7,796 transactions.
The three equities contributed 37.83 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and 6.70 per cent of its value. Market breadth also improved during the week, with 52 equities recording price gains, compared with nine in the previous week.
Thirty-two equities declined, lower than the 80 recorded in the preceding week, while 63 equities remained unchanged, compared with 58 in the previous week. UPDC Real Estate Investment Trust, Sovereign Trust Insurance, Mutual Benefits Assurance, Nigerian Exchange Group and First Holdco emerged as the top five gainers.
They appreciated by N4.80, 52k, 65k, N31.90 and N24 respectively. On the other hand, Transcorp Power, John Holt, Ellah Lakes, Livingtrust Mortgage Bank and Omatek Ventures recorded the biggest declines.
Their share prices fell by N41.60, N1.70, N1.85, 55k and 17k respectively. Meanwhile, NGX announced the listing of an additional 26.56 billion ordinary shares of Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc on its Daily Official List.
The exchange said the shares, with a nominal value of 50k each, were listed on Thursday, September 17. Also on the same day, an additional 1.069 billion ordinary shares of Critical Minerals Financing Corporation Plc, valued at 50k each, were listed on the exchange.
