Group Urges Tinubu on Fair Pipeline Contracts, Backs Ojulari’s Reforms
A group, The People’s Wellbeing Association (PWA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure fairness and inclusivity in the award of pipeline surveillance contracts, warning that exclusion of key stakeholders could trigger discontent in oil-producing communities.
The group, in a statement issued in Abuja by its Head of Communication, Abba Abubakar stressed that the process must reflect equity among stakeholders in the Niger Delta.
Abubakar cautioned that failure to fairly distribute such contracts could undermine peace and weaken support for the Federal Government in the region, noting that host communities must not be sidelined in decisions that affect their livelihoods.
He argued that equitable allocation of pipeline surveillance responsibilities would not only foster stability but also improve security outcomes around critical oil infrastructure.
The PWA further suggested that security agencies, including the military, be considered for greater involvement in pipeline protection, citing their capacity to safeguard national assets.
The group also expressed strong support for the leadership of Bashir Bayo Ojulari at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, commending ongoing reforms within the organisation.
According to Abubakar, Ojulari has demonstrated commitment to transparency and commercial discipline, even in the face of resistance from entrenched interests within the oil sector.
He noted that recent reforms have repositioned NNPCL into a more accountable and performance-driven national energy company, with improved operational efficiency across its value chain.
The group highlighted milestones such as increased crude oil production and enhanced transparency through regular financial disclosures, describing them as signs of institutional progress.
Abubakar maintained that sustaining fairness in pipeline contract awards alongside ongoing reforms would strengthen trust, promote peace in host communities and ensure that the benefits of Nigeria’s oil and gas resources are more widely shared.
