Lagos Suspends E-Call-Up System Enforcement After Meeting with Transport Unions
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has agreed to temporarily suspend the enforcement of the e-call-up system for petroleum tankers following a crucial meeting with key transport unions.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room, brought together leaders from the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD).
During the discussions, the union leaders requested a suspension of the system to allow for further engagement with their members. The Ministry accepted this request on the condition that the unions ensure compliance with parking regulations while consultations continue. However, the Ministry emphasized that enforcement would resume if there were violations.
All parties acknowledged the e-call-up system as the best solution for managing truck movements along the Lekki-Epe corridor and reaffirmed their commitment to its implementation.
The meeting was attended by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Musa, and representatives from the transport unions.
