Minority ethnic groups across the Plateau North senatorial zone have voiced strong dissatisfaction over what they describe as systematic exclusion and marginalization within the All Progressives Congress, despite their long-standing dedication and substantial contributions to the party’s growth.

Represented by a pressure group under the aegis of Plateau North Equity Project, the communities expressed deep concern that they are consistently sidelined when it comes to elective offices and key political appointments, while leadership roles remain concentrated within a single dominant group.

The Plateau North senatorial district encompasses six local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South, and Riyom, our correspondent reports.

While the majority Berom tribe holds a dominant presence in areas like Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Jos North, and Riyom, the diverse minority tribes are spread across Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, as well as the Ibaas and Ganawuri communities.

Speaking at a media briefing in Jos, Evangelist Arum Daniel Izang argued on behalf of the group that these minority populations form a crucial part of the zone’s voting bloc, yet their political rewards rarely reflect their loyalty at the polls.

According to the group, the minority tribes championed the APC from its foundational years in 2015, standing firmly by the party even when local narratives and negative labeling made it incredibly difficult to market.

They pointed out that while the numerically advantaged community initially distanced itself from the party, minority ethnic nationalities remained steadfast.

Despite official electoral records proving that a significant chunk of the APC’s voting strength in Plateau North comes from these smaller tribes, strategic party rewards—including recent chairmanship decisions and senatorial candidacy discussions for the upcoming 2027 cycle—have allegedly been handed right back to the dominant community.

With early preparations for the 2027 general elections already underway, the Plateau North Equity Project fears that history is about to repeat itself, emphasizing that their historical advocacy has always centered on fairness, equity, and a just balancing of power across all six local government areas.

To prevent further friction and ensure the party’s long-term stability in the zone, the group is calling on the APC leadership to urgently restructure its internal distribution of political offices to ensure proper inclusivity and fair representation for all ethnic stakeholders
