Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged to dismantle criminal networks, tackle corruption and reduce poverty if elected president in 2027.

Obi made the promises on Monday, October 26, 2026, during the inauguration of the NDC National Campaign Council in Abuja, where he outlined his proposed administration’s priorities in security, electricity, agriculture, education and healthcare.

The former Anambra State governor criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and rising public debt, arguing that Nigerians deserve improved living conditions and more accountable leadership.

Obi Promises Stronger Security, Action Against Banditry

Obi pledged to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for banditry and kidnapping, promising a stronger approach to addressing insecurity across the country.

He also promised to resettle internally displaced persons in their communities within his first two years in office, saying his proposed administration would prioritise security and the restoration of affected communities.

The candidate identified improved security as a key requirement for economic growth, arguing that Nigerians need safer communities to pursue their livelihoods and businesses.

NDC Candidate Vows to Fight Corruption

Obi also promised a decisive anti-corruption campaign, placing accountability and responsible management of public resources at the centre of his proposed government.

He said his administration would pursue reforms aimed at improving governance and ensuring that public resources deliver greater benefits to citizens.

His remarks come amid ongoing political debate over government spending, public debt and the management of Nigeria’s economy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi Outlines Plans for Electricity and Agriculture

On the economy, Obi pledged to prioritise reliable and affordable electricity, describing power supply as essential to business growth, industrial development and job creation.

He also promised to support farmers and establish processing facilities close to farming communities to reduce post-harvest losses, encourage local production and strengthen agricultural value chains.

The proposed measures, he said, would help stimulate economic activity and create opportunities for Nigerians.

Education, Healthcare Among Campaign Priorities

Obi further promised to improve teachers’ welfare and introduce targeted subsidies for strategic sectors, including education, agriculture and energy.

He identified improvements in education and healthcare as part of his proposed administration’s broader plan to reduce poverty and expand access to essential services.

The NDC candidate, who is running alongside Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, called on Nigerians to support what he described as a new national direction centred on fairness, accountability, security and economic productivity.

His proposals form part of his campaign commitments ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Their implementation would depend on the policies, funding arrangements and legislative measures adopted if he wins the presidency.
