Art exhibition showcasing eight emerging Nigerian artists opens in Lagos
WAKE UP!, a group exhibition showcasing emerging Nigerian artists is set to open in Lagos on Saturday, March 21.
In a statement issued on Friday, organisers said the exhibition will be held at Angels & Muse in Ikoyi and will feature works spanning photography, digital art and painting.
The exhibition, curated by Awele Onwordi, a first-class communications graduate and multi-dimensional artist, will showcase works by eight creatives, including Ade (To)Juwon Anthony Adeniyi, Franklyn Okoye, Charles Lasisi, Ajilore Kehinde, Chuka Onwordi, Joshua Bakare, and Lohi Simone.
According to the curator, the exhibition is designed to highlight new artistic perspectives shaped by youth culture, lived experiences and digital influences.
Onwordi said the works aim to challenge conventional narratives in Nigerian art while introducing what she described as a “new visual language” defined by experimentation and evolving identity.
“It will serve as a bridge between generations – inviting audiences to witness how Nigerian art is being redefined by a new wave of artists who are unafraid to experiment, disrupt, and speak honestly about their world in a new visual language and attitude while fostering an inclusive space where innovation thrives and authentic storytelling is celebrated,” she said.
