Lions Club International reinforces global leadership in disaster relief
The Lions Clubs International is renowned for its swift and effective response to global calamities, earning its reputation as a leading first responder to disasters worldwide.
These are the words of the District Governors at the Press Briefing of the Lions Club Joint District Convention, which kicked off in Ilorin, Kwara State today.
The Joint District Convention, themed “Serving in Harmony,” brings together members from two districts: District 40482 and District 40483.
They claimed that the club does a lot for society globally, stating that it’s the first responder to any calamity in the world through their foundations.
In his address, Lion Tosin Ijaduola said that the Lions Club is a charity organization dedicated to helping the less privileged in society.
“What we are doing is symbolic – a joint convention of two districts – and it’s a sign that we are serving in harmony, as the theme implies, because two districts are together.”
For his part, Lion Tolulope stated that the Lions Club has over 4 million members in more than 200 countries.
He noted that the club has just 10,000 members in Nigeria, out of a population of 200 million, and is seeking more members to serve the less privileged.
Tolulope emphasized that being a member of the club offers several opportunities, including developing new skills and gaining leadership experience, among others.
He also called on the government to support their efforts, pointing out that the government cannot achieve its goals alone and should help the club assist the government.
