Peter Obi Celebrates 65th Birthday with Call for Reflection, Service, Donates ₦10m to Rural Hospital

Mr. Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, celebrated his 65th birthday by encouraging selfless service. He urged Nigerians to see personal milestones as chances to make a difference in society instead of holding lavish celebrations.

In a statement released on Sunday for his birthday, Obi mentioned that birthdays should be times for giving thanks to God, deep reflection, and a renewed dedication to helping others.

He noted that while some countries celebrate birthdays with big parties due to their security and good living conditions, Nigeria’s situation calls for a more serious attitude.

“Our country has many valuable human and natural resources, yet millions of our citizens still face poverty, poor health, unemployment, and few opportunities. We cannot afford to celebrate ourselves too much when so many people are suffering,” he said.

Obi emphasized that the real joy of life comes not from material gifts or public praise but from making a positive impact on others’ lives.

“The greatest celebration of life is not about what we receive from others but about the lives we can positively influence,” he stated.

The former governor shared that his philosophy has influenced him throughout his career in business, the corporate world, and public service. He mentioned that he always encouraged friends and supporters to redirect funds meant for birthday celebrations into projects that help those in need.

He explained that this approach has led to building schools, hostel blocks, and providing support for educational institutions over the years, all aimed at improving lives.

Obi stated, “The greatest honor anyone can receive is not found in gifts, ceremonies, or public praise but in knowing that one’s life has made a difference, even a small one, for another person.”

For his 65th birthday celebrations, Obi started the day with a Thanksgiving Mass in Onitsha, where he thanked God for His protection, guidance, and blessings throughout the years.

He then visited St. Raphael’s Hospital in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, where he donated ₦10 million to enhance the hospital’s healthcare services.
