EUN Unveiled in Abuja, Targets Transformation of University Education
The European University of Nigeria, Abuja (EUN) has been unveiled with a commitment to transform tertiary education through innovative learning models and global academic partnerships.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja Thursday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Chinedum Ibezim said the institution was established to address gaps in Nigeria’s university system and promote global academic standards.
He described EUN as a privately owned institution with strong European academic alignment adding that the university is patterned after leading European institutions.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the university has engaged visiting lecturers from Europe, pointing out that the institution has academic links with the University of Birmingham and representatives in Germany.
Prof. Ibezim said the university has assembled accomplished scholars, including former vice chancellors of Nigerian universities, adding that many lecturers possess strong international academic exposure.
The university offers 23 programmes approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) including Pharmacy, Nursing, Law, Mass Communication, Software Engineering and other professional courses.
The Vice Chancellor said the institution has invested in modern laboratories, furnished hostels and digital libraries pointing out that the university also provides stable electricity, water supply and campus wide internet services.
He highlighted the compulsory “Learn-a-Skill” initiative for students, explaining that students must also learn at least one foreign language before graduation.
Prof. Ibezim revealed that the institution has recorded research milestones, including fabrication of laboratory equipment and development of drone technology. “Research is ongoing on plant based treatment for drug resistant malaria” he said
He further disclosed plans to commence commercial environmental impact assessments and pharmaceutical production saying the university maintains zero tolerance for drug abuse through partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Prof. Ibezim assured students of uninterrupted academic activities and announced that the university will hold its maiden matriculation on March 7, 2026 as admission remains open for the 2025/2026 academic session for qualified candidates.
