Land dispute: PDP condemns killing of Ebonyi people, charges Nwifuru to do more

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State, Barr. Onyebuchi Ekuma has condemned in strong terms the killing of Okporojo villagers in Oso Edda in Edda Local Government Area of the State.

The Chairman who was visibly unhappy following the ugly development, charged Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to do more by ensuring that perpetrators of the dastardly act were arrested and charged to Court.

Disclosing this in a statement, the PDP chairman commended Governor Nwifuru for the action steps his administration has so far taken to return peace and order to the affected community of Okporojo.

He emphasized the need for communities in the State to live as one adding that no meaningful development was possible in an environment of chaos, disaffection and hatred.

According to the statement: “In a strong term, I want to condemn the avoidable and senseless bloodletting at Okporojo village in Oso Edda community of Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.” He stated

He added that “Any communal clash that has lasted between three to six months, shows that there are stakeholders probably somewhere fanning it to continue. I want to commend the Governor’ for how he stepped into the matter and ensured that calm and peace return to the affected community.”

He further stressed that there should be a powerful investigation into the matter to enable the State government fish out the real masterminds behind the killings at Okporojo village.

“We want the Governor to do more by taking steps to apprehend those perpetrating evil against their people. If this situation is handled on the surface, it will pave way for continuous occurrence.

“We can’t continue to have our people being killed in the State in a situation that is avoidable.”

The Caretaker Committee Chairman called on various Communities to live in peace and harmony, stressing that there’s no gain in initiating an idea that will lead to the death of anybody.

“Ebonyi State belongs to all of us and we must make sure that there’s peace in all nooks and crannies of the State. We are already experiencing and enjoying peace in Ebonyi State and we want it to continue and not scuttled by mischief makers.”
