I remain loyal to APC’ — Fayemi debunks claims of co-founding ADC coalition party

Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti state, has denied claims attributed to Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation, that they jointly founded the ADC Coalition party.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ahmad Sajoh, head of Fayemi’s media office, described the assertion as baseless and without evidence.
Amaechi, speaking during a conversation on X Spaces on Saturday, reportedly said the coalition began at the Abuja residence of Nasiru Danu with Fayemi, Salihu Mohammed and other political figures present.
He claimed the meeting started as a reconciliation between himself and Fayemi, which was later expanded to include Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto state, and others.
“Saliyu was the one that started the meeting. He wanted Fayemi and I to reconcile and after reconciling, we agreed that we need to expand our meeting. It cannot be the two of us.
“And then, we got a consultant to look at the political structure and that of INEC and see which party will be most suitable,” Amaechi said.
The former minister added that Liyel Imoke, ex-governor of Cross River state, led a committee that recommended the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the most suitable platform.
Despite these details, Sajoh insisted Fayemi remains a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit. It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted.
“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state.
“At various public forums in Ekiti and nationwide, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the APC, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.
“Furthermore, Dr Fayemi has publicly endorsed Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti state, for re-election, clearly supporting his candidacy for the APC gubernatorial ticket. This underscores his loyalty to the APC,” Sajoh said.
He added that Fayemi’s association with members of other political groups reflects his willingness to work across political, religious, ethnic and regional divides for the progress of the country.
“These conversations, however, do not amount to defections or leaving the APC. Dr Fayemi has the courage to pursue his convictions.
“If he were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so. We state again, maybe for the umpteenth time: Dr Fayemi remains a principal member of the APC and is fully behind the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti state,” he said.
