2027: Ohanaeze Ndigbo Urges Emeka Kalu to Run for Political Office

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu, a senatorial aspirant for Abia North in the upcoming 2027 general elections, to heed the call of his people and contest for a viable political position.
In a statement released on Saturday by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group expressed confidence in Kalu’s leadership capacity, describing him as a consistent voice on national issues and a dependable figure in the South East political landscape.
Ohanaeze voiced disappointment over what it described as the growing trend of defection and political inconsistency among elected officials from the region, particularly those based in Abuja. The group lamented that nearly 90 percent of Igbo politicians had betrayed the trust of their constituents.
Titled “2027: Heed the Cries of Your People,” the statement praised Dr. Kalu for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people, particularly through the humanitarian efforts of the Emeka Charles Kalu Foundation. According to Isiguzoro, the foundation has served as a lifeline for many struggling residents of Abia North and the wider South East amid Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo underscores the grim reality of poverty and hunger in Nigeria, with the South East bearing a significant burden,” the statement read. “As the 2027 elections approach, the political landscape is primed for change. A ballot box revolution is looming, driven by a people tired of unproductive, corrupt, and incompetent leadership.”
The group criticized certain elected South East officials for abandoning their constituencies in favor of Abuja, even as insecurity and hardship continue to plague their communities. Isiguzoro described this as a gross dereliction of duty and insisted that the time for accountability had come.
He emphasized that Dr. Kalu stands apart through his consistent engagement with the people and his embodiment of the Igbo principle “Onye Ahala Nwanne Ya”—meaning “No one should be left behind.” His actions, the group noted, have brought hope and relief to countless citizens across Abia North.
Recent findings, according to Ohanaeze, indicate a growing grassroots movement urging Kalu to take on a greater leadership role. The group urged him to answer this call and step into the political arena in 2027, regardless of the specific office he chooses to pursue.
