Lagos Launches EcoMove to Promote Greener, Smarter Transport

In a bold move toward a cleaner, smarter, and more connected city, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has officially launched EcoMove Lagos 2025, a week-long campaign designed to promote sustainable and efficient transportation across the state.

Powered by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, the initiative runs from Thursday, April 24 to Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under the theme: “EcoMove: Connecting Communities, Reducing Emission, The Role of Public Transportation in Achieving Sustainable Goals.”

EcoMove Lagos 2025 aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, which focuses on improving traffic management, promoting eco-friendly transport models, and integrating multiple modes of transport—road, rail, air, and waterways—to enhance mobility, drive economic growth, and improve quality of life for Lagosians.

The campaign commenced with a state-wide clean-up of mechanic villages, symbolizing a renewed commitment to environmental responsibility. Key events scheduled throughout the week include:

Medical Outreach at Berger, Ojuelegba, and Oshodi motor parks on Friday, April 25

Transport Awareness Road Show across strategic locations in Lagos on Saturday, April 26

Infrastructure Tour of Major Transport Projects on Monday, April 28

Paper Presentations and Panel Discussion featuring the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as Special Guest on Tuesday, April 29

Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Special Guest on Wednesday, April 30

Officials from the Ministry of Transportation, speaking ahead of the launch, emphasized the State Government’s unwavering dedication to sustainable urban development and public health through enhanced public transport systems. They called on all residents to participate actively in the campaign and contribute to a more eco-conscious Lagos.

“EcoMove Lagos 2025 is more than an event—it’s a movement,” the Ministry noted. “It represents a collective vision for a greener Lagos where communities thrive, emissions drop, and the future moves forward.”
