In a bid to boost transparency and streamline operations at Nigerian ports, Trucks Transit Parks (TTP), in collaboration with the Apapa Customs Command, has organized a comprehensive training session for members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and freight forwarders on the Electronic Call-Up System (ETO) to enhance port efficiency.
The ETO platform, developed by TTP, is a digital tool designed to manage and schedule truck movements in and out of the ports, thereby reducing congestion, eliminating fraud, and improving overall logistics management.
The training, held in Lagos on Wednesday, attracted over 500 stakeholders who were guided through the practical use of the platform. The sessions aimed to equip users with firsthand knowledge to navigate the system independently, cutting out middlemen and curbing inflated service charges.
Irabor Akonoman, Head of Operations at TTP, highlighted the system’s capacity to provide real-time tracking and monitoring of trucks.
“The ETO system shows where your truck is, how long it has been there, and whether booking has commenced. This eliminates guesswork and promotes accountability,” he explained.
He also addressed fraudulent practices, stating, “In the ETO system, no booking ticket should exceed ₦21,000. If anyone charges ₦250,000 or more, that’s exploitation. Now, stakeholders can print receipts and verify charges directly.”
Declaring the session open, Comptroller Theo Tobi, the Customs Area Comptroller and Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Administration, reiterated the importance of stakeholder engagement in modern customs operations.
“Our goal is to facilitate the seamless movement of goods in line with international best practices. This training is part of a broader effort to empower users with the tools and knowledge needed to fully utilize the ETO system,” he stated.
He emphasized that with growing gaps in knowledge among port users, such initiatives have become crucial.
“We want you to understand how to download the ETO app, fund your wallet, and book your slots without needing a middleman. This is key to avoiding inflated fees and delays,” he added.
The event also saw participation from legislative representatives, organizing committee members, and top officials from the Nigeria Customs Service.
This collaborative training marks a significant step toward transforming logistics operations at Nigerian ports, empowering stakeholders with the digital literacy and autonomy to manage their cargo movement efficiently.
