The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is reportedly planning to arrest former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa upon his return to Nigeria from the United States.

Obasa was impeached on Monday over corruption allegations.

The removal comes barely a month after Obasa was accused of allegedly spending N17 billion to fix a gate that leads to the assembly.

He was also accused of using N43.5 billion of state funds for luxury vehicles among others.

According to peoples Gazette reports,
Sources at the EFCC said that agents have gathered strong evidence against Obasa, who had previously been investigated in 2020 for spending N1.1 billion in a week but avoided prosecution.

This time, the case against him appears to be much more substantial, and Obasa is expected to face arrest.

EFCC sources indicated that agents are ready to act as soon as Obasa arrives, with no political interference expected.

“Heavy hammer is waiting to fall on him,” an EFCC source said.

The anonymous source told People’s Gazette that Mr Obasa was guaranteed of cooling off behind bars due to the volume and strength of their case.

He will have to prove his innocence to the trained detectives handling his case
